Alyssa de Gier
Violin and Viola
Alyssa, our founder, graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelors of Arts in Music, majoring in viola, from Burman University in April 2025. She loves teaching all aspects of music including music history, theory, musicianship. Her mission is to give back what God has given her - the gift of music. In her free time, you can find her doing photography, going on walks, or hanging out with her family and friends!
Jessica de Gier
Piano
Jessica is a first year music student at Burman University, specializing in Piano. She has been playing piano for over 10 years and has been teaching for the last two years, primarily working with beginners. As she begins her Bachelors in Music, Jessica is excited to continue learning and growing as a musician and teacher. Her hobbies include watercolour painting, spending time with her dog, and reading!
Our Mission
At Selah Music Studios, we are passionate about teaching music to the next generation and fostering a lifelong appreciation for the arts. We strive to provide high-quality instruction in a supportive environment where students are encouraged to grow, develop their gifts, and share their talents. Above all, we are grateful to our Heavenly Father for the gift of music and seek to honour Him through our teaching.Our goal is to provide students and families with the opportunity to learn music, whether they are building a strong musical foundation or pursuing more advanced studies. We seek to equip our students with skills that will both foster musical growth and lifelong habits such as discipline, confidence, communication, and creativity that extend beyond their time here with us.
We use a classical approach to teaching, often beginning with a blend of the Suzuki Method and Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) curriculum, while considering each student's needs and learning styles.
A Classical Approach
to music education provides students with a comprehensive foundation in the Western classical music tradition. Lessons emphasize technical development, music reading, ear training, music theory, musicianship, and the study of a rich and varied repertoire.
The Suzuki Method
is an approach to music education that introduces music through listening, imitation, and repetition, much like the way children naturally learn language. Suzuki repertoire and principles are often incorporated during the early stages of learning.
The RCM Curriculum
provides a structured framework for music education through progressive levels of technique, scales, arpeggios, studies, repertoire, theory, and musicianship, with RCM exams available for students who wish to pursue them.
